JabrDB JustForms

JustForms allows you to create a working data-entry form for any clan. Open a clan and JustForms reads its domain and lays out the fields for you: no schema to declare, no form to build – but you can add a fairly comprehensive set of validations or constraints to any of the fields. Browse, add, edit and delete records. Arrange the form to suit the way you want to manually capture data.

Description

Most database tools make you build a form before you can enter data, and make you define a schema before you can build the form. JustForms removes those steps.

JustForms is the forms surface of JabrDB. Select a clan and it derives the form directly from the clan’s domain — every left component present in the data becomes a field, laid out and ready for use. There is nothing to design first, because the data already knows what shape it is. All that’s left is for you to add validation tests if any are needed.

Enter data from the first moment. Browse through records with the navigation bar, edit in place, add new records, and delete with confirmation. Everything saves as you go, and every change is written to the Action Log, so there is a full account of what happened and when. A twenty-deep undo stack sits behind ⌘Z for the moments when it was not what you meant.

Multi-valued fields are ordinary here. Because a relation may hold several couplets that share a left component, a field can quite naturally carry more than one value. JustForms shows these as chips rather than forcing you into a second table or a workaround. This is a straightforward consequence of the underlying algebra, and it is one of the places where JustForms does something a conventional form tool cannot.

Shape the form without touching the data. Design mode lets you reorder fields by dragging, hide the ones you do not want to see, and save the arrangement for next time — stored alongside the clan and reloaded automatically. The governing rule is absolute: hiding a field never suppresses the data behind it. Couplets survive whether or not their field is visible, so a form design is a view, never an edit. Reset returns you to the generated layout at any point.

Add a field simply by needing one. If a record wants a left component the clan has not seen before, you add it on the form and the clan accommodates it. There is no migration, no ALTER, no downtime — the domain is not a constraint imposed in advance but a description of what is there.

Forms have always been the point at which a flexible data model meets an inflexible tool. JustForms is our answer to that: a form that follows the data instead of the other way round.
