Description

JustForms is the form-building part of JabrDB. Pick a clan, and JustForms gives you a form for it — one field per column, with the types JabrDB already knows about — for entering and editing records without touching a query. Change the clan and the form follows; change the form and the data stays where it was. Forms are stored inside the database they belong to, so they travel with it.

It’s already on your Mac. JustForms is part of the JabrDB download, not a separate program, and it is free: it works fully, during the JabrDB trial and after it, with no licence key. JFDemoDB comes with a form bound to its Books clan so you can see the shape of it in a minute.

What it costs. Nothing. JustForms is included free in every copy of JabrDB and never needs a licence key. JabrDB itself is free for 15 days; after that a one-time $15 licence lets it create or change data outside forms.

Requirements. JabrDB, on an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later.

Enter data from the first moment. Browse through records with the navigation bar, edit in place, add new records, and delete with confirmation. Everything saves as you go, and every change is written to the Action Log, so there is a full account of what happened and when. A twenty-deep undo stack sits behind ⌘Z for the moments when it was not what you meant.

Multi-valued fields are ordinary here. Because a relation may hold several couplets that share a left component, a field can quite naturally carry more than one value. JustForms shows these as chips rather than forcing you into a second table or a workaround. This is a straightforward consequence of the underlying algebra, and it is one of the places where JustForms does something a conventional form tool cannot.

Shape the form without touching the data. Design mode lets you reorder fields by dragging, hide the ones you do not want to see, and save the arrangement for next time — stored alongside the clan and reloaded automatically. The governing rule is absolute: hiding a field never suppresses the data behind it. Couplets survive whether or not their field is visible, so a form design is a view, never an edit. Reset returns you to the generated layout at any point.

Forms have always been the point at which a flexible data model meets an inflexible tool. JustForms is our answer to that: a form that follows the data instead of the other way round.
