What JabrDB is, in 60 words
JabrDB is database software for the Mac that implements Data Algebra — a mathematics in which every shape of data, from tables to documents to graphs, is built from the same atom and handled by the same small set of operations. It’s the first application built on the algebra described in The Algebra of Data (Sherman and Bloor, 2015). Version 1.0 shipped in September 2026.
And in 150 words
Every database you have used runs on a mathematics of tables — Codd’s relational algebra, which gave the industry its foundation in 1970. But a table is only one shape data takes; documents, graphs and key-value stores each got their own model and their own query language, and none of them share anything. The Algebra of Data proposes one mathematics for all of them: a single atom, the couplet, gathered into relations, clans and hordes, and a handful of operations — composition, union, projection and the rest — that work the same way at every level.
JabrDB is that algebra as a program. It runs natively on Apple silicon Macs, stores data in files the user can see, and ships with a specimen company (Harbourside Trading) and guided lessons. It is built by Robin Bloor, co-author of the book, at Jabr Data Labs in Cedar Park, Texas. A 15-day trial is free; a licence is $15. JustForms is included free.

About Robin Bloor

Robin Bloor is the founder of Jabr Data Labs and the developer of JabrDB. He spent three decades as a technology analyst — founder of Bloor Research, later Chief Strategy Officer at The Bloor Group — writing about databases and data architecture for the industry that built them. With the mathematician Gary Sherman he wrote The Algebra of Data (2015), which set out a single mathematics for data of any shape. JabrDB is that mathematics made into software. He lives in Cedar Park, Texas.
About Jabr Data Labs
Jabr Data Labs LLC makes software built on Data Algebra. JabrDB is its first product; further personalities of the database — SQL, graph and others — follow as separate packs. The company is independent and self-funded. Jabr is the Arabic word from which “algebra” comes.
